Barabati Stadium to be Renovated

Cuttack (Reporters Today Bureau): The entry of the super leader and the development man Pranab Prakash Das showed the hope for the development of Cricket in Odisha. May his hand help for the rapid growth of Cricket in our State. It looks like an opening century of Pranab in OCA.

Odisha‘s historic Barabati Stadium will be renovated into a world-class cricket ground. A blueprint has been prepared by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) for the face-lifting of the stadium. The project will be implemented following an agreement between OCA and Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) approved by BCCI.

According to the project source, old galleries will be replaced with new ones. Similarly, the Club House will get a historic look and new stands will be constructed. The BCCI has sanctioned money for the renovation work to be conducted by OCA next year.

The OCA land was under OOA jurisdiction. The OOA had taken the land on lease at Rs 1 for 20 years during Harekrushna Mahatab’s tenure. After the lease agreement expired in 1989, it was not renewed and the permanent lease was not granted in OOA’s favor. However, after High Court’s direction, the process has begun to give the land rights to OOA.

The tehsil office has measured the proposed land and will submit the report on November 22. The project work will be initiated after ownership of the 26-acre land of OCA gets transferred to OOA. Notably, newly elected OCA president Pranab Prakash Das and secretary Sanjay Behera will take charge on Friday.
