Illegal Cough Syrup Trade Busted in Balangir

Balangir: In a major raid, police arrested 37 persons for allegedly involved in illegal cough syrup trade and seized around 12,000 cough syrup bottles from their possession from Balangir. The estimated amount of the seized cough syrup is worth around Rs 40 lakh.

Acting on a tip off, Balangir police conducted a raid and seized the Eskuf Syrup bottles from a vehicle. Police also arrested two main mafias of the illegal trade identified as Tophan Ghadei of Cuttack, Prashant Kheti of Balngir and their 37 aids. They allegedly procured and transported Eskuf Syrup illegally from Cuttack to Balangir and other districts after the supply reached the state from Kolkata.

Besides 12,960 Eskuf Syrup bottles, one country-made pistol, 17 mobile phones, one Mahindra XUV Vehicle, two Mahindra Pick UP, one Tata ACE Vehicle, two motorcycles and Rs 7,500 in cash, gold jewellery and other articles were seized from them.
