Odisha’s Per Capita Loan Burden Stands at Rs 22,042

Bhubaneswar: Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari said the per capita loan burden of Odisha by the end of March 2022 was Rs 22,042 while per capita income was Rs 1,28,873. Replying to a question of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Pujari told the Assembly that during 1999-2000 the per capita loan burden of the state was Rs 4,918 while per capita income of the state was Rs.13,012.
He said the per capita income during 1999-2000 was 2.65 times of the per capita loan but now the per capita income has increased and is 5.8 times of the per capita loan. The Finance Minister claimed that the affordability for the loan has increased and it is under controlled.
By the end of 2021-22, the Debt -GSDP ratio stands at 14.7 percent against the required 25 percent, he said. Since 2005-06 the state has been maintaining its revenue surplus status, the Finance Minister said. Pujari said as per the recommendations of the 12th Finance Commission, the government has achieved success in financial management by introducing new laws and the central government has waived a loan amount of Rs 1909.50 crore from 2005-06 to 2009-10.
