Oxygen Leak In Nashik, 22 Patients Died On The Ventilator Beds

Nashik (Maharashtra): In a horrifying incident, no less than 22 patients died after an oxygen tank leaked in  Zakir Hussain Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) hospital.

Due to certain technical issues which caused a variation in the pressure of the oxygen being administered in the ward, in which 22 patients intake of breath, died on the ventilator beds

“The oxygen supply was stopped for half an hour due to the leak, because of which those on the ventilator lost their lives,” said Kailash Jadhav, Commissioner, Nasik Municipal Corporation.

“People died because the pressure reduced due to the [leak in] the oxygen tank which is provided by a private company. That company looks after the maintenance of this tank,” Nashik Collector Suraj Mandhare said.

“This is an unfortunate incident. I spoke to Nashik municipal commissioner who has informed me that the situation is under control now. I’ll be going to Nashik soon. Nashik Guardian Min Chhagan Bhujbal has already gone there,” said Maharashtra minister Rajesh Tope. Other patients are being shifted to other hospitals.

An order has been passed for the probe into the incident by NMC Municipal Commissioner Kailash Jadhav and assured action against all found guilty of lapses.

Security has been tightened around the hospital premises in order to control the outrage and uproar building up after the incident.
