Pick-Up Hits Villagers Carrying Dola Palanquin

Kendrapada: Two persons were killed while 3 sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding fish-laden pick-up van at Duhuria on Cuttack-Chandbali road under Kendrapada Sadar police limits on Saturday night. The deceased have been identified as Dibyajyoti Das and Somanath Sahoo of Badagaon.

According to sources, the accident took place when eight persons, carrying a Dola palanquin, were returning from Balia ‘melana’. While Somnath died on the spot, Dibyajyoti breathed his last at the hospital. The injured have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The mishap is suspected to have occurred due to fog. While the driver fled the spot, police have seized the vehicle and begun a probe.
