Puri Market Complex Fire Doused After 37 Hours

Puri: After around 37 hours of continuous efforts, the massive fire which broke out in the multi-storied Laxmi Market Complex in Puri’s Marichikot Square has been doused and the situation is under control, informed fire officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi.
As per reports, properties worth over Rs 7 crores including as many as 43 shops and 28 guest rooms in the complex were already reduced to ashes. The firefighters faced difficulties in dousing the flames due to lack of exit and approach roads.
Earlier yesterday, Minister of State (MoS) Home Tusharkanti Behera and Fire Services DG Santosh Kumar Upadhyay has visited the spot.
Notably, a total of 160 firefighters along with 12 fire fighting trucks were pressed into service to douse the flame. Also, the striking force, formed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, was deployed for the first time in the operation.
