Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out Of First Test Against Australia

New Delhi: India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia scheduled to start on February 9 in Nagpur. Shreyas was ruled out as he has not fully recovered from his back injury.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Iyer returned to Bengaluru on February 1st to get fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) but was told to spend more time in rehab.

He was originally expected to travel from Bengaluru to Nagpur and join the India squad for their preparatory camp for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting on February 2nd.

The report further said that Iyer’s rehab is more of a precautionary step taken by the BCCI medical staff and he is now expected to join the India squad for the second Test, which starts in Delhi on February 17. Iyer, who has been a consistent performer in his short Test career, was India’s stand out batter in the 2-0 series win in Bangladesh in December.
